Cost of Downtime Calculator Key Features
This calculator was created for business professionals and owners like yourself who contend with network downtime issues and the costs associated with fixing the problem using break fix technicians.
While it can appear as if the only cost incurred is the hard cost to make repairs, the actual cost of business downtime includes lost employee productivity as well. Do you know the total cost to your business when you have a network outage without fulltime network support? This downtime calculator will provide all the complete total you need to see how much you really can lose when you don't have the proper network security services and protection in place.
Here are a few of our calculator's key features, along with tips on how to use them.
- Calculate the Two Primary Cost of Downtime Metrics
Besides providing a total of your actual cost for system restoration, you can break down the Average Revenue per Employee per Hour--and this average is the key factor to determining the dollar amount of your lost employee productivity during the network downtime.
Our handy downtime calculator will provide both numbers so you have an accounting view of your total loss for a specific network outage. As eye opening as the numbers will be, the good news is you don't have to continue overspending or losing valuable productivity.
- Download Your Results (PDF)
We want you to have a printable record of the calculations--something more formal so you can share it with other decision makers to create change (and savings). You can download a PDF version of your calculation; heck, you can download each and every downtime calculator results you complete. Simply click the blue "Download Results" button located below the calculator once you have your final calculations, enter your basic information and the PDF report will be instantly prepared for you to download.

What is Cost of Downtime?
Cost of Downtime is the total of both the hard cost to restore your network following an outage plus the amount of revenue lost due to the stalled employee productivity while the repair is completed. It accounts for both the out of pocket costs for the hourly rate of break fix technicians to complete the repair and the unintended intangible value of the revenue lost due to the percentage of employees that are not able to produce during the downtime.
How to Calculate Cost of Downtime
To calculate the cost of downtime, two metrics are required for a true assessment of the total: First is the total cost of the technicians to complete the system restoration (hours x hourly rate) and second is the total revenue lost based on the percentage of employees unable to work due to the network downtime (total # of employees x avg. revenue per employee per hour x % of employees unproductive during downtime x total downtime hours). The total of these two metrics is the total cost of downtime.
